DescriptionBaker Dill is a fishing boat captain who leads tours off of the tranquil enclave of Plymouth Island. His peaceful life is soon shattered when his ex-wife Karen tracks him down. Serenity is a 2019 American neo-noir thriller film written, produced and directed by Steven Knight. The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Diane Lane, Jason Clarke, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Strong, and follows a fishing boat captain who is approached by his ex-wife to murder her abusive new husband. First announced in January 2017, principal photography on the film began on the Island of Mauritius that July.
Serenity was released in the United States on January 25, 2019, by Aviron Pictures. The film has received negative reviews, with critics lamenting the ludicrous twists, self-serious approach and poor script, although some said it had so-bad-it’s-good qualities.
While living a quiet life on the island of Plymouth, local fisherman Baker Dill begins to receive strange visions that he can’t even explain.
One day, Baker’s ex-wife Karen shows up to his residence and tasks him with killing Frank, her abusive and sexist husband. Meanwhile, Baker appears to have a telepathic connection with Patrick, the son he had with Karen in their previous marriage, and through that decides to put aside his goal of catching a large tuna called “Justice” to help Karen and Patrick.
When businessman Reid Miller finds Baker, he explains that he is in partnership as a fishing equipment company sales rep, and wants to give him a complimentary fish tracker.
