Martyrs Movie Plot :
In 1971, a young girl, Lucie Jurin, escapes from a disused abattoir where she has been imprisoned and physically abused for more than a year. The perpetrators and their motivations remain a mystery. Lucie is placed in an orphanage, where she is befriended by a young girl named Anna Assaoui, who quickly discovers that Lucie believes that she is constantly being terrorized by a ghoulish creature – a disfigured, emaciated woman. Even so, Anna comforts Lucie every time she has a nightmare.
MOVIE REVIEW :
I would recommend Martyrs as a movie of incredible tension, harrowing physical violence and indelible imagery; unsurprisingly, the director name-checked Dario Argento during the Q&A as a serious influence in his youth and there’s a transparent and assured signature within the work which suggests some parallels are often made between the 2 film-makers. I loved this movie and for those that have already posted comments good, bad or indifferent (and i actually can’t imagine a neutral response!) I hope like myself you’ve got come away with a real sense of getting seen something the likes of of which we are unlikely to ascertain for a few time..
